We all have the usual cleaning routine for our homes down pat, but which parts of your home tend to fall to the wayside when it comes to regular cleaning? We all have a pile of cleaning mistakes we might be making. We have listed a few things that might not cross your mind to clean up, but could REALLY use a good washing down.

Light Switches

Go ahead and have a really close look at some of your light switches, we’ll wait… They aren’t something that your eyes linger on usually, but if you are not cleaning them fairly regularly, they can grime up PRETTY quickly. Take the ten minutes and use a damp (not wet) cloth and scrub the grime off your light switches the next time you have a minute. We promise you will notice them afterwards with a smile!

Dryer vents

A lot of people think that cleaning the lint trap is all you need to do. But behind your dryer is the vent that leads to your exterior and more often than not, lint does find it’s way to being trapped there. 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss. So this is less an “unsightly” area of your home to clean and more of a safety issue. Simply pull your dryer forward, unclip the ducting and use your vacuum to clear everything out. Closets

Closets tend to be the place we throw things to clean our “usable space” but they need a good cleaning occasionally as well. Trash Can

The trash can is our drop off point for every piece of waste in our home. So it’s no wonder that in short order it can become quite gross. We clean our bathrooms until they shine and sparkle and then we stand back and admire our handiwork. But what we sometimes forget to do is look up! Our bathroom vents deal with A LOT in their day and they can become as filled up as a dryer vent if not cleaned occasionally. Most vent covers pop off and you can wash them in soapy water and pop them back in. You can also use your vacuum extension to vacuum off debris!
