You might have done your seasonal cleaning and managed to clear out the majority of clutter in your home, but there's no way around the inevitable.

Those items you placed neatly away will soon come out of storage. Plus, you'll probably buy tons of new stuff. All the stuff — everywhere. The thought of the impending mess can cause a headache.

If you're still holding out to do a major cleanup, check out our five reasons to hire a professional cleaning company. Then, take things a step further with these storage solutions to save time and keep your home clutter-free.

Kitchen Storage Solutions

According to a 2019 survey of 1,000 Canadians, 77% were concerned about less family bonding because they were not cooking and eating together as much as before.

Of course, merely a year later, the world flipped upside down. By now, family members are probably looking to get a break from each other due to the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The kitchen should be a safe haven. Food brings comfort. But a messy kitchen will draw the opposite effect. And there's always so much that most of us end up having in our kitchens. Let's tackle it first.

Use Drawers, Bins, Baskets, Racks, and Labels

Throughout your kitchen, make use of large and small containers. You can section your entire kitchen based on categories like cleaning items, linens, storage containers, utensils, baking wares, and small appliances.

Baskets and plastic bins have grown in popularity as storage solutions around the home. Labelling is a great way to keep track of items not obvious to the eye. Use them EVERYWHERE.

Racks come in all forms. There's this one for storing food wraps, this one to organize tea bags, and the classic rack for utensils. Turn up your luxury meter with a magnetic strip for utensils.

Your Pantry

  • Take the First In, First Out Method when it comes to your pantry. This doesn't have to mean throwing out unused items (throwing out food is never good). It just means consuming what you already have before opening up something new.

  • Place an over-the-door rack to hold smaller items like canned foods, jars, spices, and bottles of oil. These babies help save tons of time. You can also use a magnetic spice rack

Your Island

  • Have a hollowed-out island so you can store fairly large items on wide shelves. Cooking books, waiters, and large bowls would fit well under here.

Your Shelves

  • Shelves have many surfaces besides just the top. Once the top is filled, desk organizers on the side to hold sponges and rags, freeing up space around your sink.

  • You can also utilize the underside of shelves. Here's a tutorial on how to make it happen from HGTV.

  • For lower shelves, you may consider hanging large items like chopping boards which tend to get in the way. Bonus: Create counter space by getting a large enough cutting board that covers your entire sink.

You can maximize space on counters, in cabinets, and on shelves by utilizing shelf risers. These give your space a fun, unique look.

Bedroom Storage Solutions

Your bedroom can be your sanctuary, or it can take away your sanity. There are a few ways to avoid the second one from happening.

Install New Shelves

Installing new shelves along the top of your walls along the perimeter will keep things up and out of your way. Just imagine all the things you could rest on the ground about two feet in from the walls.

Utilize Your Bed Fully

Your bed is typically the focal point of your room. Make use of it by installing a hollow headboard which you can use to hold books, a lamp, or your alarm clock at the top. You can store linens below.

A hollow, liftable bed frame will hold large items like vacuums, suitcases, and seasonal clothing like big jackets or winter boots. Alternatively, you can get a frame with drawers, or use a storage bench for the end of your bed.

Organize Your Junk Drawer

Everyone should have a junk drawer in their home. We’re not going to deny that. We are going to note that most junk drawers look like a disorganized mess...all the time. Instead of cleaning out your junk drawer a million times, opt for a junk drawer organizer

Shoe Storage Solutions

Shoe storage is a topic of its own. There are endless ways to store your shoes. You might store them in clear bins, put them in cubbies or on racks, or use over-the-door shelves.

New York magazine listed some of the best shoe racks you can use to clear out space in your bedroom. There are options just for heels and boots!

Living room Storage Solutions

Living room areas become cluttered quite quickly. You likely already have cabinets in your living room for storage. And those items you love are proudly put on display.

Multi-Functional Furniture

Still, your living room is probably where you most want to hide clutter due to guests. One heavily-adopted practice is the use of multi-functional furniture. These can be couches, side tables, or even your centrepiece.

Use couches that open up or hold drawers underneath — much like the bed solution we mentioned earlier. You can also purchase or build a clever coffee table with built-in storage compartments.

Buy an ottoman both for style and for storage. Or, just get a classic sideboard to keep items like board games, magazines, and to accentuate a corner of your living room.

Hide Electronics

Electronics and their accompanying wires make for an unsightly living area in most cases. Instead of leaving wires lying around, opt for a cable holder that fits in with your decor.

Bathroom Storage Solutions

Most people make extra effort to keep their bathroom clean because, well, it's for getting rid of dirt, to put it nicely. Regardless, bathrooms tend to get packed quickly.

One easy solution is to maximize the space below your sink. Use large plastic containers to store appliances, linens, or cleaning supplies.

Instead of just a medicine cabinet, why not go for a hollowed-out, full-length mirror with shelving inside. Storage mirrors can also be used in your bedroom.

In your cabinets, use spinning trays for bottles or space-saving bins which you can stick onto cabinet doors. Over-the-door racks are useful for small appliances which are sometimes difficult to store safely.

When it comes to your walls, make use of hooks for towels and stack shelves to maximize space. Alternatively, storage ladders and ladder shelves are gorgeous and can hold bath and hand towels, and toilet paper.

Back to Baskets!

We'll wrap up with a reminder to use baskets all over your home — including in your bathroom. Woven baskets are particularly lovely in this spot of the house.

Above all, be sure to stick to using these storage solutions you have around your home. They ARE there for good looks, but also to keep you sane. — Just like we do!

Cleaning and decluttering are two sides of the same coin.
